Technical Translation Products
Selling Technical Translation to the Public
As the international nature of business has become apparent, the need for technical translation is quite evident. The market has responded by creating a series of bespoke products that are meant to deal with the increased demand as well as providing best practice for all those who work for the industry. Some of the services provided rely on a continuous translation mode that tells the reader what is being said at the time. This is the kind of system that is used in the EU parliament.
Other technical translation services are based on an absentee system. The work or the documents are sent to the translator who then works on them and returns a finished product. The problem with such a product is that it is very hard to point out the mistakes as they are being made. The business has to effectively accept the product as sold when it arrives. The querying is unsustainable. However such products tend to be on the long term product which means that the problems can be ironed out.
Some offices have gone as far as having a resident technical translation service. This ensures that there is no reason to outsource this product. The person who is doing the translation will be under close supervision and if they are not doing the job correctly there are various avenues that can be used to address their shortcomings. It is not a particularly expensive product if one considers the potential cost.
